Kettle Rebellion

The Master Is A Drunkard

by Kettle Rebellion
Kettle Rebellion

Biografía:

Kettle Rebellion was the first "full-band" incarnation of Mischief Brew. Formed in 2001, after the "Mirth" demo was unleashed, the band only played five shows in Philly, recorded eight songs in 2002, and that was that. The songs were never mastered nor released. A few years later, some kids were staying at Erik and Denise's house and one of them swiped the final mixes. He made up his own song titles (because they weren't listed), and put it on Soulseek as a "rare Mischief Brew record.

[Verse 1]
Am
Who is this that stands before me
Dm
With a candle at its end?
Am
There's a fire in the wheatfield
Dm
And a storm around the bend
Gm
There's strangers out a'prowling
F
'Round the great harvests of hay
Am
So gather all your family
Dm
And send them all away
Gm
And to your youngest daughter
F
Hide her smiles, hide her curls
A
For the master is a drunkard
Dm
And he'll sell her off for pearls
Gm
Hide her from the vile workbeast
F
Cover her ears from the screaming world
Am A#
For the master is a drunkard
Am
And he'll sell her
Am
And he'll sell her
Am
And he'll sell her off for pearls

Dm Dm Dm Dm

[Verse 2]
Am
Who goes before the tyrants
Dm
Wielding innocence, like fools?
Am
You'll need a thousand armies
Dm
And a tale to tell your troops
Gm
Tell a tale of harsh oppression
F
And the will to thrive again
Am
How your master is a bastard
Dm
And his day must see its end
Am
And when they start to falter
Dm
Bring their hearts a carving knife
Am
And I will not wince in sorrow
Dm
Sir, you did not take a life
Gm
For on the final day of lashing
F
You won the wardship of their souls
Am
Captured, blackened by your orders
Am
Then set free in the wintry
Am
Set free in the winter
Dm
Then set free in the wintry cold

[Verse 3]
Am
You say your master is a bastard
Dm
And you cannot stand his yoke
Am
If your master is a bastard
Dm
Take a knife up to his throat
Gm
There's no means to scold your daughter
F
When she overturns a stone
Am
There's no comfort in a dark house
Dm
No harmony in torpid moans

[Verse 4]
Am
Your bones are rickety hinges
Dm
Your back, a rusty tin
Am
So you shambled to your bedside
Dm
Found your wife in bed with him
Gm
If your master is a drunkard
F
Don't bring him wine, or pour
Am
If your master is a drunkard
Am
Escape to freedom
Am
Escape to freedom
Am Dm
Escape to freedom while he snores
Dm
Snores
Dm
Snores
Dm
Escape to freedom while he snores
