Karen Dalton nació en Oklahoma en 1938 y murió en la más absoluta indigencia en las calles de Nueva York en 1993, sin apenas un mísero recorte de periódico que recordara su corta carrera como cantante de folk y blues durante la década de los 60. Apenas duró 10 años en el circuito antes de perderse en su propio mundo , destruida por las drogas.
