Waiting On The Dove

by Joshua Davis
Joshua Davis

Biografía:

Davis's music is steeped in ragtime blues, sweet jazz, real country and cajun, and he blends these traditions with his love for gritty rock n' roll and old soul. The result is what Performing Songwriter Magazine calls, "Some of the liveliest and most rocking roots music around".

Joshua travels across the country playing at concert halls, old theatres, festivals, clubs, dives, classrooms and parks. He's released a number of albums, including his 2005 solo effort

[Intro]
G C/G G C/G

[Verse 1]
G C/G G C/G
I went looking for answers that couldn't be found
G C/G G C/G
Set an uneasy pace on that uneven ground
C G C/G G C/G
Between the downtrodden and the blood of my blood
D C G C/G G C/G
Why do I keep waiting on the dove?

[Verse 2]
G C/G G C/G
Between the rubbish and the rubble there's no place to hide
G C/G G C/G
Trust and trouble can't walk side by side
C G C/G G C/G
Why is it the latter that seems to fit like a glove?
D C G C/G G C/G
Why do I keep waiting on the dove?

[Verse 3]
G C/G G C/G
Oh so many people looking out for their own
G C/G G C/G
With tear gas and plate glass, with slings and with stones
C G C/G G C/G
When there's no room to breathe it's hard not to shove
D C G C/G G C/G
Why do I keep waiting on the dove?

[Verse 4]
G C/G G C/G
Yeah I'm clinging to something too tight to drop it
G C/G G C/G
These tears keep coming, nothing seems to stop it
C G C/G G C/G
And every drop just adds a little more to the flood
D C G C/G G C/G
Why do I keep waiting on the dove?

[Verse 5]
G C/G G C/G
Headlines read "land mines and houses ripped down"
G C/G G C/G
I put names to the faces in these crumbling towns
C G C/G G C/G
I see sorrow so deep, but there's laugher and love
D C G C/G G C/G
Why do I keep waiting on the dove?

[Verse 6]
G C/G G C/G
I see people caught on both sides of a wall
G C/G G C/G
Must one side rise and the other side fall?
C G C/G G C/G
Can there only be peace when one side is silenced in blood?
D C G C/G G C/G
Why do I keep waiting on the dove?

[Verse 7]
G C/G G G/C
I'm flying home with the leaf clutched in my hand
G C/G G C/G
On either side there's no sign of dry land
C G C/G G C/G
The water keeps rising and there's nothing but darkness above
D C G
Why to I keep waiting?
D C G
Why do I keep waiting?
D C G G C/G G C/G G C/G G
Why do we keep waiting on the dove?

C/G can be replaced with Gsus4 and still have the same effect.
This makes playing with certain otherinstruments like uke a bit easier on them.
