Joe South

Dont It Make You Want To Go Home

by Joe South
Joe South

Biografía:

South had several hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s with songs such as "Don't It Make You Wanna Go Home" and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes". His biggest and most remembered single was "Games People Play" (1968), a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic. It won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Song, the Grammy Award for Song of the Year, and which bears a striking resemblance to the children's gospel song, "I Don't Want to Be a Pharisee". It was featured on his first album, Introspect.

in 1969.

INTRO: G Bm Am G D G..Am D G C Am D G

CHORUS:
G D A Am
Don't it make you want to go home, now?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
D A
All God's children get weary when they roam.
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?

#1.
G C
Oh, the whippoorwill roosts on the telephone
D G
pole and the Georgia sun goes down.
G C
Well, it's been a long time but I'm glad
D
to say, that I am goin' back down to my home
G
town.

#2.
G C
Goin' down to the Greyhound station.
D G
Gonna buy me a one-way fare.
G C
And if the good Lord's willin' and the creeks
D G
don't rise..by tomorrow I'll be right there.

CHORUS:
G D A Am
Don't it make you want to go home, now?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
D A
All God's children get weary when they roam.
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?

#3.
G C
But there's a six-lane highway down by the creek,
D G
where I went skinny-dippin' as a child.
G C
And a drive-in show where the meadow used to grow
D G
and the strawberries used to grow wild.

#4.
G C
There's a drag strip down by the riverside,
D G
where my grandma's cow used to graze.
G C
Now, the grass don't grow and the river don't flow,
D G
like it did in my childhood days.

CHORUS:
G D A Am
Don't it make you want to go home, now?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
D A
All God's children get weary when they roam.
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?
D G
Don't it make you want to go home?

OUTRO:
A Bm
Don't it make you want to go home, now?
E A
Don't it make you want to go home?
A Bm
All God's children get weary when they roam,
E A
and God how I wanna go home.

A Bm
Don't it make you want to go home, now?
E A
Don't it make you want to go home?
A Bm
All God's children get weary when they roam,
E A
Don't it make you want to go home?

A Bm
Don't it make you want to go home, now?
E A
Don't it make you want to go home?
A Bm
All God's children get weary when they roam,
E A
Don't it make you want to go home?..(Fade.)

A sixties smash from Kraziekhat.
