Capo 5 or no capo for a guitalele!

[Verse 1]
G
Well it’s a jungle out there
D A7
The year 2018, I didn’t think
C G
We’d still be sorting babies into blue and pink

And all our progress
D
Well I wonder what it means
Am
That the only girls clothes that work for me
C
Turn out to be boyfriend jeans

[Refrain]
Em
Well that’s fine
A7
Cause I decline
C G
A narrow set of rules that just don’t work
Em
Cause these red lines
A7
They’re not mine

C G
And if you need me you can find me ironing my shirt

[Pre Chorus]
G Bm
Cause I’m in black tie tonight
Em
Get a postcard to my
C G
Year 11 self in her year 11 hell
Bm
Saying everything’s gonna be alright
Em C
No you won’t grow out of it you will find the clothes that fit

[Chorus]
G D
And the images that fucked ya
Em
Were a patriarchal structure
C
And you never will surrender
G
To a narrow view of gender
D
And I swear there’ll come a day
A7
When you won’t worry what they say
C
On the labels, on the doors
G
You will figure out what’s yours

Em C G Em C

[Verse 2]
D G
And it’s a bloody nightmare
D A7
Tryna fight the spread of bigotry and fear
C G
That’s uniting Piers Morg-an and Ger-maine Greer

And all our progress
D
Yeah I wonder who it’s for
A7
When I dared to utter that trans lives matter
C
Yeah and all I got was a TERF war.

[Refrain]
A7 Em
Well that’s fine
A7
Cause I decline
C G
Your narrow set of rules they just don’t work
Em
These red lines
A7
They’re not mine
C
And if you need me you can find me ironing my shirt

[Pre Chorus]
G Bm
Cause I’m in black tie tonight
Em
Get a postcard to my
C G
Year 11 self in her year 11 hell
Bm
Saying everything’s gonna be alright
Em C
No you won’t grow out of it you will find the clothes that fit

[Chorus]
G D
And the images that fucked ya
Em
Were a patriarchal structure
C
And you never will surrender
G
To a narrow view of gender
D
And I swear there’ll come a day
A7
When you won’t worry what they say
C
On the labels, on the doors
G
You will figure out what’s yours
D A7
You will figure out what’s yours
C
And that it’s got
Gm Em A7
Nothing to do with fitting neatly in a box
C
That was constructed to make it seem
Bm
Like people come in just two teams
Em G
And anything that’s in between ain’t good enough
D C
And you will love
G
And you’ll be loved

[Pre Chorus]
G Bm
And you’re in black tie tonight
Em
Get a postcard to my
C G
Year 11 self in her year 11 hell
Bm
Darling everything’s gonna be alright
Em C
No you won’t grow out of it you will find the clothes that fit

[Final Chorus]
G D
And the images that fucked ya
Em
Were a patriarchal structure
C
No you never will surrender
G
To that narrow view of gender
D
And there’s folks you’ve yet to meet

But you’re exactly up their street
A7 C
And they’ve been waiting just as long
G
To hear someone sing this song
D
And better days are on their way
Em
When it won’t matter what they say
C
On the labels, on the doors
G
You will figure out what’s yours

Em
C D Em
And girl you’re gonna be so happy
C D G
And girl you’re gonna be just fine
C D Em
And girl you’re gonna be so happy

Em
Down the line
C
Down the line

D7 G Em C G Em
(repeat to fade)
