Biografía:
Nació en 1939 en Greenwood, Mississippi. Comenzando tocar el piano a los nueve años y cantando gospel en el coro de la iglesia
Se mudo a Chicago en 1957 y continuó a cantando, logrando grabar temas para algunas de las discograficas locales de de Chicago como C.J., Cobra y OneDerful a finales de los 50 y principios de los 60, con éxitos locales como "I'll Be There" y "I've Got A Claim On You". Firmó un contrato con VeeJay, una firma que editó algunos éxitos de los Beatles en la misma época.
