George Formby no es solamente un icono del entertainment británico, sino que su música fue influencia fundamental en el nacimiento del skiffle inglés, estilo claramente enraizado en el Country y en el folk estadounidenses. No sería exagerado afirmar, pues, que sin Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly o Formby, jamás habría existido Lonnie Donegan.

Además, fue precursor de un instrumento del que no se suele hablar demasiado: el banjolele (o banjulele)
