[Intro]
G D Cadd9 D

[Verse]

G
We ain't talked in a couple years

The last time I saw him we were throwing back beer
Cadd9
A couple of bachelors in a town too small

For our reputations to let us stay long
G
I could tell that boy was never gonna change

He'd sowed his oats by now still he carried his ways
Cadd9
There was no point telling him to settle it down
Em
If it was gonna happened it'd have happened by now

[Pre Chorus]

Em D Cadd9
Til he called me late one night
D Em
Said man, are ya sittin down
D Cadd9
I'm gonna be daddy real soon
D
And no I'm ain't messing around

[Chorus]

G D
Are ya coming to my shotgun wedding down in Jackson
Cadd9 D
Her momma's so happy but her daddy ain't laughing
G D Cadd9 D
Yeah I 'm trying to make it right the only way I know
G D
We got family coming in from a hundred different ways
Cadd9 D
I gotta face em straight on and I know what they're gonna say
Cadd9 D
Man I need you here real bad can you make it down
Cadd9 D G G D Cadd9 D
Yeah I'm headed to a shotgun wedding way back in my hometown

[Verse]

G
I thought of all those times he'd be up all night

Chasing those skirts till the morning light
Cadd9
there was even girl who set a wedding date
Em
But she went crazy or at least he'd say

[Pre Chorus]

D Cadd9
So I guess his time has come
D Em
To buckle down and be a man
D
And I'll try hard not to laugh
Cadd9 D
at the alter if I can

[Chorus]

G D
Cause I'm going to a shotgun wedding down in Jackson
Cadd9 D
Her momma's so happy but her daddy ain't laughing
G D Cadd9 D
Yeah he's trying to make it right the only way he knows
G D
He's got family coming in from a hundred different ways
Cadd9 D
He's gotta face em straight on and I know what they're gonna say
Cadd9 D
So I need to help the boy out and drive on down
Cadd9 D G
Yeah IM going to a shotgun wedding way back in my hometown

[Outro]

G
Well all our ex girlfriends were sitting in the pews
D
With a sigh of relief when he said I do
Cadd9
We wished em' well
G D
and we all drove on out to the lake
Cadd9
And there might be another shotgun wedding
D G
If I stay out too late
