Biografía:
Hatfield se matriculó en la Berklee College of Music de Boston con la intención de encontrar a gente que quisiera formar una banda con ella, y así conoció a John Strohm (guitarra) y a Freda Boner (batería) en 1986. El mismísimo Allen Ginsberg bautizó al grupo cuando ellos se lo pidieron durante el turno de preguntas de una conferencia que el poeta dio en la misma universidad; se lo pensó unos segundos y les propuso Blake Babies, en referencia a William Blake.
