Bill Morrissey

Night Shift

by Bill Morrissey
Bill Morrissey

Biografía:

Bill Morrissey (November 25, 1951 – July 23, 2011) was an American folk singer-songwriter from New Hampshire. Many of his songs reflect the harsh realities of life in crumbling New England mill towns.

Hailing from New Hampshire in the northeastern United States, singer-songwriter Bill Morrissey wrote about everyday life on the fringes, both geographical--e.g., fading mill towns, railyards, prisons--and interpersonal--e.g., instant infatuation with an unknown woman at a bar.

Night Shift
Bill Morrissey
Capo III

Well the [G] bar was packed for a Tuesday Night
The [Bm] Bruins were on TV
[Em] Everybody in the place was tight
[Am] Make no exception for [Em] me

I’ve [G] been drinking to my travelin days
I should’ve [Bm] been at work long ago
But [Em] tonight, I aint comin’
[Am] Tonight I just Can’t[ Em] go

I should be makin [Bm] shoes on the [D] night shift
But I can’t [C] drive in through the [Am] snow drift
That’s what I[Bm] told them at the fact[Em] ory
I wonder [C] how the boys on the [D] night shift
Ever got along without [G] me

Well the [G] guys I work with are lifers here
They talk [Bm] shotguns and tv
They can [Em] call me names in French or English
And [Am] do it frequent[Em] ly

And their [G] wives they don’t smile much
But their [Bm] hearts are made of gold
Well they [Em] run their families
But make it [Am] look like they do what they are [Em] told

I should be makin [Bm] shoes on the [D] night shift
But I can’t [C] drive in through the [Am] snow drift
That’s what I[Bm] told them at the fact[Em] ory
I wonder [C] how the boys on the [D] night shift
Ever got along without [G] me

So [G] bartender pour me another shot
And [Bm] back it with a beer
[Em] Tonight I am thanking heaven
I can [Am] still get out of [Em] here

Cos for [G] awhile I thought I could settle down
And I [Bm] called my own bluff
Oh the [Em] road gets long as I get older
But I [Am] still got the [Em] stuff

I should be makin [Bm] shoes on the [D] night shift
But I can’t [C] drive in through the [Am] snow drift
That’s what I[Bm] told them at the fact[Em] ory
I wonder [C] how the boys on the [D] night shift
Ever got along

I wonder [C] how the boys on the [D] night shift
Ever got along without [G] me
