Desde que era niño, Charlie Daniels cantó en las misas, con una filosofía de vida. Daniels formó a varios miembros, como Taz DiGregorio, Banjo Banjo, y Jamie Nichols. Influyó en varios cantantes de soul y blues como Nat King Cole, Chuck Berry, Elmore James y Elvis Presley. Formó a la banda de CDB en la iglesia junto con Carolyn Corlew, y todos los demás grupos.
