[Intro]
C Am7/E F G (4x)

[Verse 1]
C ~ F G C ~ F G
Columbus sailed the ocean, at the age of seventeen
C ~ F G C ~ F G
And he must have had a vision, and he must have had a dream
C Bbsus2 F Ab
The wise men and the prophets, frozen in their ways
C Fm G
Tried to turn him back again, as a way of saving face

[Verse 2]
N.C. C ~ F G C ~ F G
So they sent him out a message, and the message was so clear
C ~ F G C ~ F G
If you go chasing rainbows, you're not welcome here
C Bbsus2 F Ab
And I heard he was a bad man, with his finger in the pie
C Fm G
But they knew he'd be home again, there was something in his eyes

[Chorus]
N.C. C Am C G C
And I've seen the veil of darkness, going across the sky
Am Dm G C
Rising in the east, where the sun used to shine
F C Am
Just when I get to thinking, it's all been a waste of time
N.C. C F C G Am
The most beautiful thing in the world, cuts this heart___ of mine

[Verse 3]
C ~ F G C ~ F G
Now poor old Mother Russia, couldn't keep her children fed
C ~ F G C ~ F G
When she saw she couldn't feed them, she walked the streets instead
C Bbsus2 F Ab
So Boris built a castle, with Joseph on the door
C Fm G
To try to erase the memory that their mother was a whore

[Verse 4]
N.C. C ~ F G C ~ F G
And the poor are always with us, I heard somebody said
C ~ F G C ~ F G
No matter how much you feed them, they'll still be underfed
C Bbsus2 F Ab
One thing to remember when evening the score
C Fm G
There are none so equal as, those who are so poor

[Chorus]

[Verse 5]
C ~ F G C ~ F G
Now you may be a sailor, or a pilot of a plane
C ~ F G C ~ F G
Risking your life and everything, for fortune and for fame
C Bbsus2 F Ab
Well, you're the kind of prophet to put the world to rights
C Fm G
But the trouble with your vision is, keeping it in sight

[Chorus]
C F C G F G
The most beautiful thing in the world, cuts this heart___ of mine

[Outro] (## repeat and fade to end ##)
