Houses on the hill
By: Whiskeytown

Intro:

C Fmaj G x2

Verse:

C Fmaj
Well I found a bunch of letters they were written for the fella
G
Who broke your Momma's heart
C Fmaj
And the envelope folds smelled of her ancient perfume
G
I'll bet she didn't know
C C/B Am
How to respond before the blankets of snow caught him out
Fmaj G C Fmaj
wandering alone with no place to go

G C

Chorus:

Fmaj G
And there were stars in the sky
C C/B Am
There were houses on the hill and there were bottles of pills
Fmaj G C Fmaj
That were easy to buy to keep her warm from the oncoming storm

G

Verse:
C Fmaj
Well I found them in the north-west corner of the attic,
G
In a box Labeled "Tinsel and Lights"
C Fmaj G
Didn't know what I was looking for, maybe just a blanket or artifacts

C

Fmaj G
Eisenhower sent him to war
C C/B Am
He kept her picture in his pocket that was closest to his heart
Fmaj G C Fmaj
and when he hit the shore he must of been a target for the gunman

G C

Chorus:

Fmaj G
There were stars in the sky
C C/B Am
And there were bunkers on the hill and there were caskets to fill
Fmaj G C Fmaj
Where he would lie, shrouded in the red white and blue with the stripes

G C

Fmaj G
And there were stars in the sky
C C/B Am
There were houses on the hill and there were bottles of pills
Fmaj G C Fmaj
That were easy to buy to keep her warm from the oncoming storm

G C
