The Submarines son una banda de indie pop de Los Ángeles, California. Después de trabajar como solistas en Boston, los dos miembros de la banda, John Dragonetti y Blake Hazard fueron presentados por un amigo común. Dragonetti y Hazard iniciaron una relación sentimental y fueron de gira por Europa. La relación duró 4 años pero terminó en otoño de 2004 cuando se trasladaron a Los Ángeles.
