The Style Council

Walls Come Tumbling Down

by The Style Council
The Style Council

Walls Come Tumbling Down - The Style Council, Our Favourite Shop (1985)

Words and Music by Paul Weller

Tabbed by Ryan Chan

Chords:

Em (022000) or (x79987) or (079987)
A (x02220) or (577655) or (x07655)
D (xx0232)
D/C# (x4x232)
D/C (x3x232)
Bm (x24432)
B/D# (x6444x)
G (320003) or (320033) or (355433)
F# (244322) or (x44322)
B (x24442)
Fmaj7 (x33210)
C (x32010)

Note: Sometimes the B/D# does not always sound great, but it is the correct chord and this sometimes comes
strumming the chord too much. You could also alternate between playing it with and without the B string
in it: (x6444x) and (x644xx)

Intro:

Starts with organ and builds up

Em A D D/C# Bm B

Verse 1:

Em A
You don't have to take this crap
Em A
You don't have to sit back and relax
D D/C# Bm B/D#
You can actually try changing it
Em A
I know we've always been taught to rely
Em A
Upon those in authority
Em A
But you never know until to try
Em A
How things just might be
D D/C# Bm B/D#
If we came together so strongly

G A
Are you gonna try to make this work
F# Bm
Or spend your days down in the dirt?
Em
You see things can change
A D
Yes, the walls can come tumbling down

Governments crack and systems fall
D/C B
'Cause unity is powerful
Em A D
Lights go out, walls come tumbling down
D/C#
Yes they do (yes they do)
D/C B
Yes they do (yes they do)

Verse 2:

Em A
The competition is a colour TV
Em A
We're on still pause with the video machine
D D/C# Bm B/D#
That keeps you slaves to the H.P.
Em A
Until the unity is threatened by
Em A
Those who have and who have not
Em A
Those who are with and those who are without
Em A
And dangle jobs like the donkey's carrot
D D/C# Bm B/D#
Until you don't know where you are

Chorus 2:

G A
Are you gonna get to realise
F# Bm
The class war's real and not mythologised

Fmaj7 C
(Down,) oh, will you unite it?
Fmaj7 G A B
Ooooh

Em A
Are you gonna be threatened by
Em A
The public enemies number ten?

When they tell you there's no rise in pay
