The Cog is Dead es una banda steampunk proveniente de DeLand, Florida,
Ellos se consideran principalmente una banda de rock, sin embargo oscilan entre los sonidos de la música Folk Rusa, Rock n' Roll, Ragtime, Punk Rock, Reggae, scores y steampunk.
The Cog is Dead se formó a finales de 2006 por John Mondelli. Se decidieron por el nombre de "The Cog is Dead" ("El diente está muerto" en español) después de leer esas palabras al azar a partir de una página del Top Stoppard "The Real Thing".
