Good King Wenceslas

by Skydiggers
Skydiggers

Biografía:

Formed in 1989 by singer Andy Maize and guitarist Josh Finlayson, the band soon added Peter Cash, Wayne Stokes and bassist Ron Macey to their lineup. They quickly became a regular house band at Toronto's Spadina Hotel, often playing with Cash's brother, singer/songwriter Andrew Cash.

In 1989, the band became the first Canadian signing to Enigma Records. Their self-titled debut album was released on Enigma the following year, and spawned the singles "Monday Morning" and "I Will Give You Everything".

G                               C               G
Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the Feast of Stephen
G                              C                  G
When the snow lay round about, deep and crisp and even.
G        C         Em7       D      C                 G
Brightly shone the moon that night, tho the frost was cruel
G      Em7      C       D      Em7       D      G C G
When a poor man came in sight, gathering winter fuel.

G                             C                   G
Hither, page, an stand by me, if thou knowest it, telling
G                          C                  G
Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?
G        C       Em7         D      C              G
Sire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain
G     Em7         C      D      Em7    D     G C G
Right against the forest fence, by St. Agnes fountain.

G                                 C                  G
Bring me flesh and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither
G                             C                 G
Thou and I will see him dine, when we bear them thither.
G        C        Em7        D     C                 G
Page and monarch, forth they went, forth they went together
G           Em7        C      D    Em7     D       G C G
Through the rude winds wild lament and the bitter weather.

Instrumental:

G   C   G
G   Em7   C   D   Em7   D   G   C   G

G                              C                 G
Sire, the night is darker now, and the wind blow stronger
G                               C           G
Fails my heart, I know not how; I can go no longer.
G       C          Em7           D     C           G
Mark my footsteps, my good page. Tread now in them boldly
G          Em7      C       D     Em7        D          G C G
Thou shalt find the winters rage, freeze thy blood less coldly.

G                              C                  G
In his masters' steps he trod, where the snow lay dinted
G                         C                   G
Heat was in the very sod, which the saint had printed.
G          C         Em7     D     C              G
Therefore, Christian men, be sure, wealth or rank possessing
G      Em7      C         D     Em7       D           G C G
Ye who now will bless the poor, shall yourselves find blessing.
