Portugal.The Man surge en el 2002 en la ciudad estadounidense de Wasilla, Alaska y con sede en Portland, Oregon. La banda está compuesta por antiguos miembros de la banda Anatomy of a Ghost. Musicalmente, su estilo tiene sus raíces de los sonidos indie, pero sus canciones también contienen elementos de soul, blues, progresivo, y la música popular.
