INTRO Am G F Am

VERSE
Am
Now there once was a time when the northerners sang

G
of a king they had crowned: more a boy than a man,

F Am
More a pup than a wolf, with the cold of the realm in his eyes

Am
He’d broken a vow to the lords of the Twins:

G
Wed a stranger, a beauty, but a promise there’d been

F Am
So the Lord Frey demanded a bridegroom as compromise

CHORUS
F C
And the timbers groaned

G Am
River wind softly moaned,

F G
“Oh, the King in the North doesn't know

Am
How a red wedding goes.”

Am

VERSE
Am
Well, the feasting was plenty and the singing in tune

G
And the Stark wolves, they howled ‘neath their northern moon

F Am
So loud were their cries that the closing of doors was drowned out

Am
Lady Catelyn alone had the river’s sharp ear

G
Heard dancing reels turn to the Rains of Castamere

F Am
In her skin and bones growled a creature of doubt

CHORUS
F C
And the timbers groaned

G Am
River wind softly moaned,

F G
“Oh, the King in the North soon will know

Am
How a red wedding goes.”

Am

VERSE
Am
There were arrows and daggers, and the touch of them burned;

G
From players to slayers in an instant were turned

F
And the foreigner Queen was the first to fall under the knife

Am
With two arrows in him, the King crawled to her side

G
While his mother, she pleaded for the Lord to subside

F Am
But he’d taken their word, and to break it meant no right to life

CHORUS
F C
And the timbers groaned

G Am
River wind softly moaned,

F G
“Oh, the King in the North, now he knows

Am
How a red wedding goes.”

Am

VERSE
Am
Lord Bolton approached; with a thrust to Robb’s heart

G
He gave him the Lannister Lions’ regards

F Am
And the king’s mother wept, for his last word had called her to him

Am
There was nothing she felt cutting Lady Frey’s throat

G
And she felt nothing more when they slashed her own

F Am
The North will remember, she thought, and they’ll have all your skins

CHORUS
F C
And the timbers groaned

G Am
Now the wolves lie below

F G
Oh, the King in the North, if he’d known

Am
How a red wedding goes

F C
And the timbers groan

G Am
But the North waits; they know

F G
That one day the blood they are owed

Am
Will run ‘neath their soles

Am
Run 'neath their soles

Am
Run 'neath their soles.
