La primera Idol virtual que tiene el talento de cantar sin utilizar una artista de doblaje se llama Miku Hatsune y es una niña de 16 años creada por la compañía Yamaha. Se trata una implementación del software Vocaloid, que está diseñado para sintetizar cantos con solo escribirle la letra y darle la melodía, el software fue lanzado el 31 de agosto del 2007 y sirve para hacer canciones de anime aunque se pueden crear otro tipo de sonidos.
