Biografía:
Paul Dean (ex-Streetheart) y Mike Reno (ex-Moxy) ensayan con sus respectivas bandas en un local de ensayo en Calgary, Canadá. Pronto empiezan a componer y escribir música juntos con el teclista Doug Johnson. En la primavera de 1979, el batería de los Streetheart, Matt Frenette se les une y los cuatro se trasladan a Vancouver. Allí enuentran al bajista Scott Smith (ex-Dalbello) y nace Loverboy.
Impresionados por las demos de la banda, Columbia Records (CBS) los contrata para grabar un disco y Loverboy se edita en 1980 en EE.
