Linda Thompson

Blue And Gold

by Linda Thompson
Linda Thompson

Biografía:

Linda Thompson (born Linda Pettifer) started her singing career in the 1960s, doing advertising jingles for money and singing in folk clubs for enjoyment. She changed her name to Linda Peters, and was romantically linked to Martin Carthy before working with Richard Thompson, whom she married in 1972. As part of Richard & Linda Thompson she sang on a string of critically acclaimed albums until a bitter split in 1982. After battling voice problems over the years since, she resurfaced with a solo album in 1996, and has worked sporadically since.

Linda Thompson - Blue And Gold

CAPO: 2nd Fret

[Intro]
G Am7 D G Am7 D G

[Verse 1]

Tell me, Mother, who will I marry?
Am7 D G
Tell me as we stitch

While my father loves to tarry
Am7 D G
Under a drunken ditch

[Verse 2]

Her mother said you are a princess
Am7 D G
And you will seek your kind

He will sweep you off your feet
Am7 D G Am7 D G
And you’ll live in a palace so fine

[Verse 3]

She met a boy and he seemed so right
Am7 D G
With his stripes and his blue cockade

And they lay down on a pallet of straw
Am7 D G
It seemed like a grand estate

[Verse 4]

She married the man to whom she was promised
Am7 D G
With heavy heart she went

With servants to carry and servants to fetch
Am7 D G
And no one to help her forget

[Chorus]
C G Am7
Through the long lonely nights I call your name
C G Am7
Sleeping and waking to me are just the same
C G C G
Everything I have I would gladly give
Am D
For thee, for thee

[Instrumental]
G C D G C D G C D G C D G

[Chorus]
C G Am7
Through the long lonely nights I call your name
C G Am7
Sleeping and waking to me are just the same
C G C G
Everything I have I would gladly give

For thee, for thee

[Verse 5]
G
Blue and gold, young and old
Am7 D G
Beautiful or plain

The fortunes of war are a broken heart
Am7 D G
On a golden chain

[Verse 6]

Pity the woman who marries for love
Am7 D G
Her heart will never be free

And pity the woman who marries for land
Am7 D G
For she’ll unhappy be

[Chorus]
C G Am7
Through the long lonely nights I call your name
C G Am7
Sleeping and waking to me are just the same
C G C G
Everything I have I would gladly give
Am D
For thee, for thee

[Outro]
G Am7 D G
Ah, dai, dai dai, dai dai, dai dai, dai dai, dai dai, dai dai
