Katharine Hope McPhee nació el 25 de marzo del 1984 en Los Angeles, California , se mudó con su familia y hermana a Sherman Oaks a los 12 años. Su gran aptitud y capacidad provienen de familia, en concreto, de su madre Patricia Burch McPhee, cantante de cabaret. Fue ella quien decidió educarla desde que se descubrió su don, a la edad de dos años.
