Biografía:
A los 15 años, Joan formó The Runaways con otras tres rapadas, Sandy West, Lita Ford y Cherie Currie. Joan cantaba, tocaba la guitarra rítmica y escribía mucho material de la banda. La banda grabó cinco LPs y giró por todo el mundo entero junto con Cheap Trick, Van Halen, Tom Petty y The Heartbreakers. Tuvieron especialmente éxito en Japón.
Mientras que The Runaways eran muy populares en Europa, Japón, Australia, Canadá y en Sudamérica, ellas no tuvieron el mismo éxito en Estados Unidos.
