## NOTE: G* = 320033 ##

CAPO: 5th Fret

INTRO: C Am G C F C G C Am G C F C G C

Am G C F
'Twas a man from the Island of Skye, they say
C G G*
Came to the harsh land of this glen
Am G C F
With his hands and his heart and the sweat of his brow
C G C G* C
Well, he made the land good again

Am G C F
Through his children the seeds of the music were passed
C G G*
And the secrets of tilling the land
Am G C F
And the ocean nearby held a kinship so deep
C G C G* C
Giving food up into their hands

CHORUS:
G F C G
And the folks in the cities have passed us by
F C D G
They don't know how they got there and don't care why___
C G C F
But there's a place we recall all the hardships back then
C G C
Down here in Gilgarry's Glen

INSTRUMENTAL: Am G C F C G C Am G C F C G C

Am G C F
Generations passed by and the coal companies came
C G G*
And the younger men all moved away
Am G C F
Progress, they said, couldn't wait on the dead
C G C
And they wound up in early graves

Am G C F
Soon the highways were finished and the trestles stood high
C G G*
As America took up the slack
Am G C F
And there's many a Scot down in old Boston town
C G C
Wishing that he could only get back

CHORUS:
G F C G
And the folks in the cities have passed us by
F C D G
They don't know how they got there and don't care why___
C G C F
But there's a place we recall all the hardships back then
C G C
Down here in Gilgarry's Glen

Am G C F
Nowadays life is simpler, the land now is still
C G G*
Now and then a few tourists stop by
Am G C F
And they're charmed by the fiddlers whose tunes tell the tale
C G C
Of that man from the Island of Skye

CHORUS:
G F C G
And the folks in the cities have passed us by
F C D G
They don't know how they got there and don't care why___
C G C F
But there's a place we recall all the good times back then
C G C
Down here in Gilgarry's Glen
G C F
Yes, if life came by twice, we'd all do it again
C G C
Down here in Gilgarry's Glen

OUTRO: C F C G G C F C G C F C G C etc., etc.
