J Roddy Walston And The Business

Boys Can Never Tell

by J Roddy Walston And The Business
J Roddy Walston And The Business

The tabs I submit are ones I've figured out on an acoustic guitar, as that's all
that I play. I think this sounds great acoustic, and since it is a softer song,
might be the most appropriate way. For the F chord, you could use either
1-3-3-2-1-1 or x-x-3-2-1-0. I alternate with both, as sometimes one feels more
comfortable to transition into than the other. Get lost in it and do what feels
right. Enjoy.

Intro - C for 4 bars (playing with the high e string held down on the 3rd fret
doesn't sound bad for this part)

C G F C
If daddy says the mountains come off, you must believe him true
C Am F G
I will build a science, and create a world for you
Am F G C
I'll protect you from yourself, and tendencies you've shown
C G F C
Cuz the world will see a man like you as weak and undergrown

F
But I'm gonna love you son
C
Even if you love no one
F C
This thing you will learn too well
Am F C Am F C
Boys can never tell, boys can never tell
Am F G C
You should bite your tongue, and will your words to fail
G C
Boys can never tell

C G F C
You're a lady without warning, and I've been loyal mean
C Am F G
This is not the body you were born in, and I can prove it with what I've seen
Am F G C
So I will raise you tough, build you strong and crown you king
C G F C
You will put me in the ground and choose yourself a queen

F
But I'm gonna love you son
C
Even if you love no one
F C
This thing you will learn too well
Am F C Am F C
Boys can never tell, boys can never tell
Am F G C
You should bite your tongue, and will your words to fail
G C
Boys can never tell

Am
I don't expect you to understand how much it took to care
C
I built you out of, half my blood, and filled your lungs with air
Am C
I only had you to make your mother stay
Am C
But when you came she left, all the same
Am
So I have learned what love is and what it cannot be
C
But I will not speak of it, until you will speak of me

F
But I'm gonna love you son
C
Even if you love no one
F C
This thing you will learn too well
Am F C Am F C
Boys can never tell, boys can never tell
Am F G C
You should bite your tongue, and will your words to fail
G end on C, ring out
Boys can never tell
