Rescue Me
Music and Lyrics by Dougie MacLean
Capo 5 for original version

[Verse 1]
C Dm Em Dm Em F
Old layers of time have buried the ways that the others have grown
C Dm Em Dm Em F
And though sturdy and strong his eyes open wide with each new unknown
F Em Dm Em
And oh it’s for the Earth that he screams in the night
F Em F
He's a servant of the seasons and the morning's early light
F
But the troubled one, he says

[Chorus]
C Em
Rescue me, he says rescue me
Dm Em F G
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
C Em
Rescue me, he says rescue me
Dm Em F G
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
G C Em Dm Em Dm
He says rescue me

[Verse 2]
C Dm Em Dm Em F
And see these guilty hands that envenom the soil and take the like from his fields
C Dm Em Dm Em F
But now these book-reddened eyes have discovered the truth and what it conceals
F Em Dm Em
And oh it's for the Earth that he screams in the night
F Em F
He's a servant of the seasons and the morning's early light
F
But the troubled one, he says

[Chorus]
C Em
Rescue me, he says rescue me
Dm Em F G
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
C Em
Rescue me, he says rescue me
Dm Em F G
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
G C Em Dm Em Dm

[Verse 3]

And so the plough it will turn and our hearts they will burn for sair works nae easy
C Dm Em Dm Em F
But oh this circle stone and this buzzard dyke and this great unknown
F Em Dm Em
It goes on and on into distance of time
F Em Dm Em
And oh it's for the Earth that we scream in the night
F Em F
We're servants of the seasons and the mornings early light
F
But the troubled ones, they say

[Final Chorus]
C Em
Rescue me, they say rescue me
Dm Em F G
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
C Em
Rescue me, they say rescue me
Dm Em F G
On this mountain's the only place I can see clearly
G C
He says rescue me
