Dion Francis DiMucci nació el 18 de julio de 1939 en el Bronx (Nueva York). Se descubrieron sus grandes dotes vocales cuando se reunía su familia ítalo-americana para hacer fiestas. En 1954 (a los 15 años) debutó por primera vez en televisión, en un programa de Filadelfia llamado Teen club, cantando una canción dedicada a su madre. Más tarde, Dion conoce a un grupo llamado The Timberlanes y graban juntos el tema The Chosen Few para la discográfica Mohawk.
