Dear Evan Hansen

A Little Bit Of Light

by Dear Evan Hansen
Dear Evan Hansen

Biografía:

Dear Evan Hansen is nothing short of a Broadway sensation. With music and lyrics written by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul and book written by Stephen Levenson, the still-running 2015 musical tells the story of a lonely young man, the epnonymous Evan Hansen (played by Ben Platt until November 2017) tells a viral lie that escalates to crippling heights and serves as a commentary on our social media obsessed culture and tendency to selfishly wear other people's tragedies.

[Verse 1]
E
All that I’ve thought about
D
is how hard he would slam that
E
bedroom door,
G
Every night after dinner.
B E
Wild-eyed and weary
A
from all those nights of fighting a war
E B
Where no one was the winner.
F#m C#m A
The missing pills from the medicine cabinet.
F#m
The missing kid
A
found passed out in the park.
F#m
All those demons
E
that he wouldn’t let up,
B E A
They kept dragging him down through the dark.

[Chorus]
B D A
But there were moments.
E F#m
He had moments,
E B
With a little bit of light.
A
In those moments, he was happy.
B C#m
He was trying still to fight.
E D
And maybe the battle he fought wasn’t
A
one he could win,
C#m A F#m C#m
But at least there were days when he let the light in.
A
In those moments,
F#m E
a little bit of light.

[Verse 2]
A
I don't remember the last time I heard him laugh
A
Well ah he used to laugh all the time. He did?
C#m A
Um he, he, he had a great great, sense of humor?
A
Hoho he used to love jokes when he was a little boy
C#m E A
Why did the chicken cross the road? He had a million different answers to that one.
E B E
One day he said to me, mom why did the duck cross the road?
A
Because he wanted to prove that he wasn't chicken.

[Verse 3]
E
I remember picnics and little league and Sundays at the zoo.
A
I remember how he smiled.
E
And years of trick or treating. A spider man he stood at four foot two.
A
Such a happy child
B
But it seems like I woke up one morning.
F#m
Sweet little boy he was.
B
Suddenly gone.
E
Something had switched off the
A E A E B
Light and it seemed like it never quite came back on

[Chorus 2]
A
There were moments
F#m
Yeah there were moments
E
A little bit of light in those moments
A F#m
He had someone
A C#m
who was helping him to fight
E D
And the battle he fought
A
he just had to win
C#m
What I miss were the days
C#m A
when he let the light in.
B A
In those moments,
E A
A little bit of light.
