Why Do You Treat Me Like You Do

by Donovan
Donovan

Biography:

Donovan Philips Leitch (born May 10, 1946 in Maryhill, Glasgow), better known as simply Donovan, is a Scottish singer, songwriter, and musician. Originally a '60s folk singer, as the decade progressed Donovan cultivated his own unique eclectic sound, mixing elements of folk, pop, jazz, world music and more, often with a twinge of psychedelia. His most well-known work was suffused with altruistic political overtones, making him an iconic figure of the "flower power" counter-culture of the '60s.

Why Do You Treat Me Like You Do?
by Donovan

Capo 4th fret

C E
1. Hey, hey, hey,

F C G
why do you treat me like you do ?

C E
Hey, hey, hey,

F C G
why do you treat me like you do ?

C C7

There's just as many geese and they're flyin' down South,

F G

as there are lies just pouring out of your mouth.

C E F C

Hey, hey, hey, why do you treat me like you do ?

C E F C - G

2. You say that you're young, girl, I guess that's your big excuse,

C E F G

but sometimes I get so low down, I wanna shout out, what's the use ?

C C7

When you've been a lovin' someone else, you don't try to hide,

F G

you take me for a fool then you take me for a ride.

C E F C

Hey, hey, hey, why do you treat me like you do ?

C E F C - G

4. Ah, you seen my face, gal, with the tears all down my mouth,

C E F G

you came up, you held my hand, gal, you don't know what it's all about.

C C7

I seen you goin' out, there was nothin' I could say,

F G

I hung around your house till the very break of day.

C E

And you came a-laughing down the bright highway,

F C

now, why do you treat me like you do ?

C E

3. My mornings, they're all empty now,

F C - G

my evenings, they're just the same.

C E

Now, maybe I been thinkin' wrong about you, gal,

F G

and you ain't really the one to blame.

C C7

Keep on lovin' someone else, now don't you try to hide,

F G

you take me for a fool, if it keeps you satisfied.

C E

'Cause I ain't gonna be the one to ask the reason,

F C

why do you treat me like you do ?
