Chris Rea

Raincoat And A Rose

by Chris Rea
Chris Rea

Biography:

Christopher Anton Rea (born 4 March 1951) is an English rock and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born and raised in Middlesbrough, he is of Italian and Irish descent. He is known for his distinctive, husky singing and slide guitar playing, with the Guinness Rockopedia describing him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart". After learning to play the guitar relatively late, a short burst of local band activity led to his launching a solo career in 1978.

[Verse]
C F C
Rain, tears of joy, tears of pain, is this really me,
F C
Standing here at the station? The card said I mustn't be late
F
I've never been late, I've never really had the chance
Dm F Em7
Years and years and not even wanting a second dance
N.C. C
"Look for a raincoat and a rose."

C F
I hope no one sees, they'll laugh I know.
C F
He was always like that, yes it always showed.
C
Did I do something wrong to have to pay,
F
In many more ways than one?
Dm F Em7
Rainy day, what do I say? How simple it's all become?
N.C. C
"Look for a raincoat and a rose."

C F
Love is for fools and fools have no grace, damn them while you can,
F
Out here on the fence is such a lonely place
C
I wish I was foolish now,
F
the greatest of pain is never really knowing,
Dm F Em7
Maybe today I'll find out this way, the way that I'm going.
N.C. C
"Look for a raincoat and a rose."
