Biography:

Zachary Barnett (vocals), James Adam Shelley (guitar/banjo), Matt Sanchez (drums), and Dave Rublin (bass) started the band "American Authors" Boston, Massachusetts in 2012, but soon moved to Brooklyn, New York. As their band name suggests, this quartet writes stories through their music to share their struggles, high and lows, and changes.

Soon after forming, American Authors caught the attention of Island Records, which signed the band to a record deal.

CAPO 5 (Key: F)

[Intro]

| Am C | F Dm |

[Verse 1]

Am C F
I feel like hell, I'm all over the place
Dm Am
Can't believe I'm seeing you in this random space
C G F
Know I miss you, do you believe in fate

Am C F
If you think the universe is so big and vast
Dm Am
Don't wanna be alone, you moved on too fast
C G F
I didn't catch his name, just trying to catch my breath

[Pre-Chorus]

Am G
Of course it's you I see when walking down the street
Em F
Maybe the world is telling me it's never easy

[Chorus]

C Dm Am
So listen up, my heart is dark
F
I know that I've been replaced
C Dm Am
I've had enough, I tried to love
F
Keep coming back to this place
Am C F Dm C
I wanna be free and let you fly away
Dm Am
To see a smile upon your face
F
It's the hardest part of being replaced

[Verse 2]

Am C F
I heard you moved in, wasn't that our plan
Dm Am
Still wake up in the morning and I reach for your hand
C G F
I felt chemistry, I don't understand

Am C F
Most days I sleep in seem more night than day
Dm Am
I had all the answers, now the questions have changed
C G F
It's a running joke that I can't escape

[Chorus]

C Dm Am
So listen up, my heart is dark
F
I know that I've been replaced
C Dm Am
I've had enough, I tried to love
F
Keep coming back to this place
Am C F Dm C
I wanna be free and let you fly away
Dm Am
To see a smile upon your face
F
It's the hardest part of being replaced

[Bridge]

Am C F Dm
It's never easy
Am C F Dm
It's never easy

[Pre-Chorus]
