[Verse 1]
Em C G B Em C F
Mother as I write the sun dissolves
Em C G B
Blood life streaming cross my hand
Em C F
And these words, these words
Em C G B
Hope dashed immortal hope
Em C F
Hope streaking the canvas sky

[Chorus]
G Em D C Am G C D
Blue poles infinitely winding, as I write, as I write[x2]

[Verse 2]
Em C G B
We joined the long caravan
Em C F
Hungry dreaming going west
Em C G B
Just for work just to get a job
Em C
And we never got lucky
F
We just forged on
Em C G B
And the dust the endless dust
Em C F
Like a plague it covered everything
Em C G B
Hal fell with the fever
Em C F
And mother I did what I could

[Chorus]
G Em D C Am G C D
Blue poles infinitely winding, as I write, as I write[x2]

[Verse 3]
Em C G B
We prayed we prayed for rain
Em C F G Em D C Am G C D
I never wanted to see the sun again
Em C G B
All my dresses you made by hand
Em C F
We left behind on the road
Em C G B
Hal died in my arms
Em C F
We buried him by the river

[Chorus]
G Em D C Am G C D
Blue poles infinitely winding, as I write, as I write[x2]
D G
I write
