Verse 1:

C G/B
Beethoven's gone, but his music lives on,
Am Em
And Mozart don't go shopping no more.
F C
You'll never meet Liszt, or Brahms again,
Dm G7
And Elgar doesn't answer the door.

Verse 2:

C G/B
Schubert and Chopin used to chuckle and laugh,
Am Em
Whilst com-posing a long sympho-ny.

But one hundred and fifty years later;
Dm G
There's very little of them left to see.

Chorus 1:

C F C F G
They're Decomposing Com-po-sers; there's not much anyone can do.
C F G7 C
You can still hear Beet-hoven, but Beethoven cannot hear you.

*(BEETHOVEN BREAK)*

Verse 3:

C G/B
Handel and Haydn and Rachmaninov,
Am Em
En-joyed a nice drink with their meal.
F C
But nowadays no one will serve them,
Dm G7
And their gravy is left to con-geal.

Verse 4:

C G/B
Verdi and Wagner de-lighted crowds,
Am Em
With their highly original sounds.
F C
The pi-anos they played are still working,
Dm G
But they're both six feet under-ground.

Chorus 2:

C F C F G
They're Decomposing Com-po-sers; there's less of them every year.
C F
You can say what you like to De-bussy,
G7 C
But there's not much of him left to hear.

Coda:

C Am Dm G C Am Dm G
Aah, aah... Claude A-chille De-bussy; died, nineteen eight-een.

Christophe Willebald Gluck; died, 1787.

C Am
Carl Maria Von Weber; not at all well, 1825; died 1826.

Modeste Mus-sorgsky; 1880, going to parties, no fun any more, 188-1.
C G

C F G C
Chatting away nineteen to the dozen, with his mates,
(n.C)
Down the pub, every evening, 1836, 1837; nothing.
