Hang The Key On The Bunkhouse Door

by Wilf Carter
Wilf Carter

Biography:

Wilf Carter (born December 18, 1904 in Port Hilford, Nova Scotia, Canada, died December 5, 1996 in Scottsdale, Arizona), also known as Montana Slim, was a Canadian country music singer and yodeler.

In 1923, Carter moved west to Calgary, Alberta, where he found work as a cowboy and made extra money singing and playing his guitar. It was during this time that he developed his own yodeling style, sometimes called an "echo yodel" or a "three-in-one".

Album: A Prairie Legend, Vol. 1
Chorded by Gary W, 10 Sept 2006

C F C
A bunch of jolly cowboys, when the roundup days were done
F C D G
De- -cided they would head for town and have a little fun
C F C
As they rode gaily down the trail I could hear the old cook say
F C G C
I?ll hang the key on the bunkhouse door and boys don?t you be late

Chorus
F C
Hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night
G
Don?t leave the light a-burnin? dear, we may not look right
C F C G
The trail is long, the goin?s tough and someone may get tight
F C G C
So hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night

Inst: Follow pattern of first verse

F C
Hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night
G
Don?t leave the light a-burnin? dear, we may not look right
C F C G
The trail is long, the goin?s tough, someone may get tight
F C G C
So hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night

Inst: Follow pattern of first verse and Chorus

C F C
Those city gals are lots of fun but they can?t see our ways
F C D G
Swing them through the old square dance they call us ornery strays
C F C
All dressed in chaps and jeans and spurs we sang with all our might
F C G C
Hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night

F C
Hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night
G
Don?t leave a light a-burnin? dear, we may not look right
C F C G
The trail is long, the goin?s tough and someone may get tight
F C G C
So hang the key on the bunkhouse door ?cause we?ll be late to- -night
