The Wedding Present

Interstate 5

by The Wedding Present
The Wedding Present

Biography:

The Wedding Present are an indie rock group formed in Leeds, England in 1984. They evolved from the ashes of The Lost Pandas. Their music has evolved from fast-paced indie rock in the vein of their most obvious influences The Fall, Buzzcocks and The Go-Betweens, to more varied forms. Throughout their career, they have been led by vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band's only constant member.

The Lost Pandas fell apart in 1984 when guitarist Michael Duane (later of dustDevils) was sacked, and Panda's drummer Jaz Rigby followed in protest.

THE WEDDING PRESENT

Interstate 5

Talitres
2/2005

From the LP "Take Fountain"

The song is simple & ludic to play. Only one guitar is playing here.

The LP is very nice as well.

Intro :

D + A#

Verse 1 :

D A#
I should just get out of here and start driving south on Interstate 5

D A#
But I need to stay near, in case you suddenly remember that I'm alive

D C A#
But I have this na---gging fear that sex was all you needed

D C A#
I've tried to per---se---vere; I guess I've not succeeded

+ solo

Verse 2 :

D A#
And is it sexist to say that I thought just boys were meant to behave in this way?

D A#
And though you seemed quite sincere, will you even recognise my face this time next year?

D C A#
Well I'll remember how your eyes sparkled in the moonlight

D C A#
You can surely sym-----pa---thise; I just wanted more than one night

Chorus :

D C A#
And yes there was one particular glance that made me afraid

D C A

D C A#
That you were just seeing me as a chance of getting laid

D C A

+ solo
