The Chuck Wagon Gang

Looking For A City

by The Chuck Wagon Gang
The Chuck Wagon Gang

Biography:

The Chuck Wagon Gang Story – Past to Present

Seventy-two years in any business is a long time, particularly in a musical group of any genre. Today, the Chuck Wagon Gang holds the distinction of being the oldest recording mixed gospel group still performing with ties to the original founding. By trade, the Carters were farmers, who migrated from place to place to pick cotton. The singing group came from humble beginnings in 1935, as the Carters found themselves in Lubbock, Texas, without enough money to buy medicine for a sick child, Effie.

There the sainted millions, never say good-bye,
F A# F
There we'll meet our Savior, and our loved ones too,
A# F G C F A# F
Come O Holy Spirit, all our hopes renew.

(The next verse is not sung in the actual recording, hence the [ ], but it's nice
to have the full version of songs)

F C
Friends no longer speak one word of love;
F A#
O we have found contentment, Jesus promised us a home,

And I'm looking for a city built above.]

Chorus:
F A# F
Looking for a city, where we'll never die,
F G C
There the sainted millions, never say good-bye,

In this land of dangers going here and there
F C
