The Clouds Are Lies

by The Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Brian Jonestown Massacre

Biography:

The Brian Jonestown Massacre was formed in San Francisco in 1990. The band has had over 40 members since then, but its driving force and main songwriter is Anton Newcombe. Other prominent members have included Matt Hollywood, Dean Taylor, Jeff Davies, Brian Glaze, and Joel Gion. Their sound is heavily influenced by the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s, but also carries influences from shoegaze, jangle pop, garage rock, and lo-fi genres.

Over its decade-long history, the band has undergone a large number of personnel changes.

Remember: i made this guide with help of manys live versions of this song. And this tutorial is right for live
versions, not album version. But i hope this was helpful to just playing that song for your own fun.

Important note: play all chords with style like - down, down, up, up. If you still don't know how to play it,
just watch at Anton's right hand on youtube live version of that song.

Note #2: actually in that song you can easily play same chords with your two friends. So its going 3 guitars
playing same chords, then one of them can doing solo, while another two guitars continue play chords and
in that way supporting solo guitar. Sounds nice!

Note #3: words in live version is not same with album version. So i doing it by ear, if you have corrections -
write in comments.

---

Intro (you can play it without intro, but with intro it will be nice introduction - play it few seconds and
then go to words and sign):
D

Verse:
D C D
Someday we can pretend
D C D
Dreams can help us be friends
D C D G
Will friends they now dreams can change soul
D C D
Sometimes we can be friends

---

Then solo part. Other guitars playing:
D, C, D, C, D, C, D, G, D, C, D
So in that last D singer go to words.

---

Verse:
D C D
Somedays we can pretend
D C D
Dreams can help us be friends
D C D G
Will friends they now dreams can change soul
D C D
Sometimes we can pretend
D C D
Sometimes we can pretend
D C D
Sometimes we can pretend

So then outro after last line going like this:
D, Dsus2, D, C, D

Song ends on D
