A Amaj7
Looking for the working man's cafe
D
In the shopping center of the town
Bm
Looking for somewhere to fit in
E7
In among the retail outfits
A Amaj7
Bought a pair of new designer pants
D
Where the fruit and vedge-man used to stand
Bm
I always used to see him there
E
Selling old apples and pears
D
Chatting up the pretty girls
A /A /B /C# D A/C#
With knocked off goods in the van
Em A /C#
Don't you know
D G /F#
He was a working man

Em A /C#
Long ago
D G /F#
He was a working man
Em G
And we sat in the working man's cafe
D
The working man's cafe

D Dmaj9
Everything around me seems unreal
G Em
Everywhere I go it looks and feels
Em7 A
Like America
D Dmaj9
You've really come a long way down this road
Em7
Approving our surroundings as we go
Changing our roots and culture
Em7 A
But don't you know

Em A /C#
Long ago
D G /F#
There was a working man
Em A /C#
Don't you know
D G /F#
We were all working men
Em G
And we'd sit and pass the time of day
D A
At the working man's cafe

A Amaj7
I thought I knew you then, but will I know you now
A
There's got to be a place for us to meet,
Amaj7
I call you when I've found it
D A
I only hope that life has made us a little more grounded
E /G#/A /B
Hey man, I see you now!

G A
O o o
D /F# G
We were all working men
E/G# /A E7/B
And here we are at the working man's cafe

(same chord as on 1st verse)

It's really good to see us come so far
But haven't we forgotten who we are
Taking out a larger loan
Equity relief and mortgages
We all seem to pass the time of day
Online on the internet cafe
And if you you forget my face
In case you've forgotten just who I am
D
I'm the kid with the greasy spoon
A /A /B /C# D A/C#
Firmly held in my hand

Em A
Don't you know
D /F# G /F#
I was a working man
Em A
Long ago
D /F# G /F#
We were all working men
Em G
And we sat and spent the time of day
D A
At the working man's cafe
G
Yeah
A D
At the working man's cafe
