Peter Blegvad

Gold

by Peter Blegvad
Peter Blegvad

Biography:

Peter Blegvad (born 14 August 1951) is an American born, UK based singer-songwriter, and cartoonist. He was a founding member of the band Slapp Happy. He has released several solo albums and collaborated with bassist John Greaves (recording Kew.Rhône with Greaves in 1977). In 2001 Blegvad published his strangely surreal, yet beautifully drawn comic, The Book of Leviathan, which received much critical praise for blending some of the most interesting elements of Krazy Kat with a coming-of-age-esque story akin to Calvin and Hobbes.

Will you come with me through the ice and the snow

We are rich in each other

Well sometimes I dream that the world is reversed
Em7 A7sus4 A7
I dream that accountants are rarer than poets
D D/F#
That things’ll get better
G
They can’t get any worse
Em7 Bb6
That a rich man has nothing but dirt in his purse

D Em7 G A
And gold is the lowest of metals
D Asus2 A
Too soft for serious use

When you’ve handled so much
D Em7 G A
The lowliest of metals
D Em7 G A
The lowliest of metals
D Em7 G A D G/B D
The lowliest of metals

This song is deceptively simple, as each verse has variations. On "King Strut", it is
played with a capo. On "Choices Under Pressure" there is no capo, and a chorus is omitted.
