Gmaj7 | Cmaj7/E Em
I will open up the door, Knowing what I know,
Cmaj7 D7 | (Cmaj7) D7 G
Ushering you in Beyond the blasting wind and snow.
Gmaj7/E | Em/C
I will take your winter coat, Three feet from the stair,
Cmaj7 Cmaj9/D | D7 G
Simply overcome to see you standing there.

Gmaj7 | Cmaj7/E Em
We will slowly climb the steps, Hand in trembling hand,
Cmaj7 D7 | (Cmaj7) D7 G
To a second story, And an undiscovered land.
Gmaj7/E | Em/C
I will give my growing trust, Haltingly confess
Cmaj7 Cmaj9/D | D7 G
How yours can break my heart, appearing limitless,

Em F#m7(b5) E
And in one kiss will dwell the years
Emaj7(b5) Ebmaj7
When I will be the slave of fate,
Amaj7(no5) Abmaj7 Fm7
Trying to slow the setting sun,
D7 Db
If you should be an hour late.

Gmaj7 | Cmaj7/E Em
I will hear your patient knock, Muffled by the gale,
Cmaj7 D7 | (Cmaj7) D7 G
See you from my window, Looking resolute and pale,
Gmaj7/E | Em/C
Hurry down to let you in, Reach to touch your face,
Cmaj7 Cmaj9/D | D7 G
Holding back my eagerness To drown in your embrace,

Gmaj7 | Cmaj7/E Em
And when I do, your voice will be A broken murmur in my ear,
Cmaj7 D7 | (Cmaj7) D7 G
Saying a thousand things to me. Each one will mean, “The search ends here.”

A A/Ab Gbm | Eb7 Abmaj7 |
Up the steep and narrow stair, We will slowly climb.
