G# x6654x

Use these chord shapes instead of the shapes that are highlighted below. Much easier,
and after the first passage through, just grab the A chord as a bar using just your index
finger, and go right into the F#m, then G, G#.

Lots of alternate bass picking and bass runs(e f# g#) to the A and(a b c#) to the D. Another
option is to pick notes, rather than play the E chords using a run(a c# d d# e d# d c# a)on the
5th and 4th strings(pick above note run along with the vocal), and ending back on the A chord.

[Verse 1]
A
Well, I've been workin' at the factory earnin' every dime I make
E A
Lookin' at my check stub cussin' what the tax man takes
A
My baby's dependin' on me - oh Lord to bring the bacon home
E A
But it's just salt pork we're eating lower on the hog

[Chorus]
D N.C. D
But if I die in the mornin' they can't say I didn't pay my way
A
With honest sweat and elbow grease and doin' what the foremen say
D
But after we buy groceries, pay the rent and the telephone
E
I'm broke, it's gone, what's goin' on?
F#m G G# A
There's a lot less scrap to throw out to the dog
F#m G G# A
I'm makin' more now and eatin' lower on the hog

[Solo]
A E A (x2)

[Verse 2]
A
There's people standin' with their hands out formin' a welfare line
E A
Savin' their back while I'm out breakin' mine

I ain't worried about the federal budget or the L.A. city smog
E A
I'm workin' overtime and eatin' lower on the hog

[Chorus]
D N.C. D
And if I die in the mornin' they can't say I didn't pay my way
A
With honest sweat and elbow grease and doin' what the foremen say
D
But after we buy groceries, pay the rent and the telephone
E
I'm broke, it's gone, what's goin' on?
F#m G G# A
There's a lot less scrap to throw out to the dog
F#m G G# A
I'm makin' more now and eatin' lower on the hog
F#m G G# A
There's a whole lot less to throw out to the dog
F#m G G# A
I'm makin' more now and eatin' lower on the hog

[Outro]
D A D E
F#m G G# A (x4)
