I think this is kind of right.

Note: Not sure if it's how they play it, but for
the Em and the C, I like to keep my pinky on the high G

Another note: You can do C Am F C G with no capo too, of course.
I just like the way it sounds more this way.

Capo V

G
I read the words of a thousand books
Em
And gave away my dirty looks
C G
And I cleaned out all my cupboards
D
One by one

G
I quit the job that I hated most
Em
My pockets full of hundred dollar notes
C G
But there’s not enough to buy back
D
What I lost

Ooh's: G Em C G D

G
Now I wash my hair and I clip my toes
Em
I leave the room just to blow my nose
C G
And I shower twice a day
D
With soap

G
But I don’t feel clean like I thought I would
Em
My sins don’t wash away so good
C G
They stick to me like glue
D
Like glue

Ooh's/harmonica: G Em C G D7 x2

G
So I pack my bags and change my name
Em
To something that nobody can say
C G
And I’ll squander all my hard
D
Earned cash

G
I speak too slow when I’m most in need
Em
Your skins too soft and your hearts too clean
C
To be caught up in this awful mess
G D
With someone like me

Ooh's/harmonica: G Em C G D x3

End on G
