The Innocence Mission

Notebook

by The Innocence Mission
The Innocence Mission

Biography:

The Innocence Mission are a folk band featuring the beautiful, mesmerizing vocals of Karen Peris, and the guitar backing of her husband, Don Peris.

Their signature style is dreamy slow songs, with beautiful melodies.

The original band, including Mike Bitts (bass), and Steve Brown (drums), was formed in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the early 80s when the members met during a Catholic school production of Godspell. Although all members of the band have contributed musically, Karen Peris does most of the group's writing.

capo 1st fret

VERSE
[A]I showed him my [D]notebook
[A]The underside [D]of my soul released
[A]In scribbles on [D]pages
[A]He smiled and [Aadd9]held my [A]hand

I knew that he would see
For he dreams of touching beauty too
There has to be more than
The work day

CHORUS
[C#m]He's painting [Bm]houses
[C#m]He's painting [Bm]houses for awhile
[C#m]Then home to his [Bm]canvas
[A]Coming to [D]life

VERSE progression repeat:
I write in my notebook
This feeling it takes me by surprise
In thoughts that I don't know
That I have

They're hidden by useless facts that I
Compile at the office where I work
Where there is no time for
Feeling anything

CHORUS progression repeat:
You see I just work there
To finance the real life that begins
With scribbles on pages
And thoughts of how and why

VERSE progression repeat:
Museums on Sundays
Whenever we can we both go
And stay there for hours
Feeding our spirit

CHORUS progression repeat:
And beauty is still free
And beauty is not exclusive
And beauty is ours to
Touch and to know
Touch and to know

VERSE progression repeat without Aadd9:
And don't you think there's more
I really have to know
Don't you think there's more to life? (2X)
Don't you think there's more to life? (3X)

repeat [A][D] to fade
