The Fray

How To Save A Life

by The Fray
The Fray

Biography:

From the sleepy sprawl of America's 'Mile-High City', Denver, Colorado, United States, comes The Fray, a foursome whose melodic piano rock songs and soaring vocals resonate with sprawling tapestries and tales of hopefulness and heartache. Formed in 2002 by Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) and Joe King (guitar, vocals), The Fray earned a loyal grassroots following through impressive area gigs and the support of local radio, which led a listener-driven campaign to get the band a record contract.

How To Save A Life Tab by The Fray

First time at writing down a tab/chords. Let me know where you think I may have gone
I'm sure you will :P

Timming 4/4

I have my guitar dropped one full note so I play this with the Capo on the 5th fret. But
you have standard tuning just stick the capo on the 3rd :)

There is one chord I am not sure of the name I have put as "D(c slidedown 2)"
Basically play a standard C chord but slide it down 2 frets and don't play your bottom E
(the bass E :P )

**UPDATE**
Just noticed once this had been put up that the Dsus4/F# might been a bit confusing if
highlight it. This may be because I can't read music and hence doing it by ear, I may
not named the chord right.

The chord Dsus4/F# is meant to be played as Dsus4 with your thumb (or finger which ever
prefer) on the bass E string, second fret. Hope that makes sense :P

[Verse 1]

G Dsus4/F#
Step one you say we need to talk
Em7 Dsus4/F# G
He walks you say sit down it’s just a talk
Dsus4/F# Em7
He smiles politely back at you
Dsus4/F# G
You stare politely right on through
Dsus/F# Em7
Some sort of window to your right
Dsus4/F# G
As he goes left and you stay right
Dsus4/F# Em7
Between the lines of fear and blame
Dsus4/F#
And you begin to wonder why you came

[Chorus]

C D(C slidedown 2)Em
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
G D
Somewhere along in the bitterness
C D(C slidedown2) Em
And I would have stayed up with you all night
G D G (Dsus4/F# Em Dsus4/F#)
Had I known how to save a life

[Verse 2]

G Dsus4/F#
Let him know that you know best
Em7 Dsus4/F#
Cause after all you do know best
G Dsus4/F#
Try to slip past his defense

Without granting innocence
G Dsus4/F# Em7
Lay down a list of what is wrong
Dsus4/F#
The things you’ve told him all along
G Dsus4/F#
And pray to God he hears you
Em7 Dsus4/F#
And pray to God he hears you

[Chorus]

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
G D

As he begins to raise his voice
Em7 Dsus4/F# G
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Dsus4/F#
Drive until you lose the road
Em7 Dsus4/F#
Or break with the ones you’ve followed
G Dsus4/F#
He will do one of two things
Em7 Dsus4/F#
He will admit to everything

And you’ll begin to wonder why you came
