The Dead South

The Dead South

by The Dead South
The Dead South

Biography:

The Dead South is a four-piece acoustic ensemble based in Regina, Saskatchewan. With Nate Hilts' gritty vocals and aggressive guitar strumming, Scott Pringle's soaring harmonies and mandolin chops, Colton Crawford's blazing banjo licks and steady kick drum, and Danny Kenyon's prominent cello melodies, The Dead South blends elements of folk, bluegrass, classical, and rock which results in a unique, modern, and authentic blend of boot-stompin' acoustic music.

[Verse]
Dm A# A
Oh pass the rum on down the line it's getting pretty cold
Dm A# A
It's been nine straight days of hell and burning fires in the snow
Dm A# A
And I haven't seen my baby since that old black ship set sail
Dm A# A Dm
Still we're holding out 'till winter dies and hoping our strength prevails

Dm A# A
Dm A# A Dm

[Verse]
Dm A# A
The full moon peaks around the clouds as the grey wolves cry
Dm A# A
The hour's getting late and we've drunk every bottle dry
Dm A# A
Just one more march from dusk 'till dawn 'till we finally arrive
Dm A# A Dm
At the gates of those who long ago burned our houses and took our lives

[Chorus]

And we'll sing
Dm A# A
"We are the Dead South who came across the sea
Dm A# A Dm
To take back our lives and leave this land of misery
Dm A# A Dm
Our will is our weapon our hearts forever bound
Dm A# A Dm
Come on now tilt your bottle back and let's go grab another round

[Verse]
Dm A# A
The wind is at our back the ground is shaking at our feet
Dm A# A
Marching for the gates we pray the lord my soul to keep
Dm A# A
For if we ever get ourselves out from this mess alive
Dm A# A Dm
I'll be singing this song for years to say I'm happy we survived

Dm A# A Dm
tilt your bottle back and let's go grab another round

[Chorus]
Dm A# A
"We are the Dead South who came across the sea
Dm A# A Dm
To take back our lives and leave this land of misery
Dm A# A Dm
Our will is our weapon our hearts forever bound
Dm A# A Dm
Come on now tilt your bottle back and let's go grab another round
