Slaughter Beach, Dog

Phoenix

by Slaughter Beach, Dog
Slaughter Beach, Dog

Biography:

Slaughter Beach, Dog is an indie rock/punk band, the brainchild of Philadelphia-based musician Jake Ewald - best known as one quarter of Modern Baseball. The other members include fellow MOBO-ite Ian Farmer on guitar, Evan Clarke-Moorehead on bass, and Patrick Ware on drums. They play sweet jams about other people, and sometimes get a little alt-country. They're bringing it all back, baby.

[Intro]

A B/A D/A

[Verse 1]
A B/A
From the corner of 3rd and Washington
D/A
You can't see where your brother went
B/A
Out somewhere past the beat cops
D/A
And beautiful women who work for the government
F#m E/A
They walk by in air-conditioned tunnels
Eb/A
That arc high above the street
D/A
While I sweat in my hot coffee
E
And daydream about how we might meet

A B/A D/A
A B/A D/A

[Verse 2]
A B/A
Your mother asked for a picture
D/A
She says "today's your birthday"
B/A
In some strung out western stutter
D/A
Making all the world her ashtray
F#m E/A
She adjusts her aviators
Eb/A
With an absent shaking hand
D/A
Tilts the camera forty-five degrees
E
And calls out modeling commands

A B/A D/A
A B/A D/A

[Verse 3]
A B/A
When we used to go to parties
D/A
You'd spend an hour before the mirror
B/A
And I'd drink your gin
D/A
And ask about your high school souvenirs
F#m E/A
Tacked on the wall above the bed
Eb/A
An old Inkjet collage
D/A
But you were never much for talking
E
So I knelt to your garage

A B/A D/A
A B/A D/A

[Verse 4]
A B/A
We'd walk the three blocks westbound
D/A
In the moonlit Philly fall
B/A
And the party would be grand
D/A
All our friends would grin with pride
F#m E/A
All our friends would be so drunk
Eb/A
And have such pleasant things to say
D/A
And at last, we'd see each other

In the way that we had dreamed to be seen

A B/A D/A

[Bridge]
A B/A D/A
A B/A D/A
F#m E/A D/A
F#m E/A D/A

[Verse 5]
A B/A
Those nights your house kept secret
D/A
We'd stumble up the stairs
B/A
My hands tore through your records
D/A
While your hands unpinned your hair
F#m E/A
The both of us still green enough
Eb/A
To remove the other's clothes
D/A
A quiet signal of devotion

That I am happy to have known

A B/A D/A

[Outro]
A B/A D/A
A B/A D/A
F#m E/A D/A
