Sea Wolf

The Orchard

by Sea Wolf
Sea Wolf

Biography:

Sea Wolf is an American indie rock band led by Alex Brown Church. The band began in 2003 when Church, a founding member of Irving found that many of his songs did not fit with their style. With a rotating ensemble of backing musicians, Sea Wolf played locally in Los Angeles and began recording demos in Seattle with producer Phil Ek (Band of Horses, The Shins, Fleet Foxes). In 2007 they signed to Dangerbird Records and released the Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low EP and a full-length titled Leaves In The River.

The Orchard by Sea Wolf

[Verse 1]
Db Bbm Gb Ab
Last night we went out to the orchard in the snow
Db Bbm Gb Ab
There in the constellations, a big dipper far below
Db Bbm Gb Ab
We walked through the blackness, felt the endless space around
Bbm Fm Ab Fm
And you bent down on your knee and picked an apple from the ground

[Verse 2]
Db Bbm Gb Ab
Out past the forest where the Saint Lawrence lies
Db Bbm Gb Ab
We heard the cargo ships go pushing through the ice
Db Bbm Gb Ab
You turned when we heard them, your breath hung in the air
Bbm Fm Ab Fm
And you said, "Just 'cause we can't see them doesn't mean that they're not there

[Refrain 1]
Gb Fm Gb Fm
But I'm not afraid of what I can't see
Gb Fm Gb Fm Db
Don't need a reason, don't need to belie--eve"

[Verse 3]
Db Bbm Gb Ab
We climbed up a ladder that leaned against the hay
Db Bbm Gb Ab
And out in the distance saw the highway far away
Db Bbm Gb Ab
The headlights all sparkled, blending into the sky above
Bbm Fm Ab Fm
Where the moon was coming up, and I knew that's all there was

[Refrain 2]
Gb Fm Gb Fm
But I'm not afraid of all that space
Gb Fm Gb Fm Db
'Cause everything I need is written on your fa--ace

[Verse 4]
Db Bbm Gb Ab
Over by the barn in the dark, we heard the geese
Db Bbm Gb Ab
They carried our boots past the naked little trees
Db Bbm Gb Ab
We smelled the cold bark in the air and the sweetness of
Bbm Fm Gb Ab Db
The fruit on the ground, and the wood smoke... above
