Walk On The Ocean Chords by Toad The Wet Sprocket
Tabbed by Big Daddy Glenn

I saw many good attempts and one really close one. As simple as this song sounds it
has a complex progression with a tight walking bass line. Too many people are playing a
or
Em where the B is. Follow these chord forms and the progression listed and you’ll hear
from the other versions. The key on the B is to be sure you don’t play the
string and to strum through the chord and play the open D in the chord. Realize that all
notes are relative to the Capo on the 4th fret.

Toad The Wet Sprocket - Walk On The Ocean
(Capo 4th fret - all chords relative)

Chords used:
G C A Em F#/D
E—3--|--3--|--3--|--3--|--2--|--3-------|
B—3--|--3--|--3--|--3--|--3--|--3-------|
G—0--|--0--|--2--|--0--|--2--|--0-------|
D—0--|--2--|--2--|--2--|--0--|--0-------|
A—2--|--3--|--0--|--2--|--0--|--2-------|
E—3--|------|------|------|--2--|-------|

VERSE 1: (The first A is played with the 3’s on the B and E strings)
G C G A Em C G
We spotted the ocean at the head of the trail
A G C G F#/D A Asus4 A
But where are we going, we're so far away
G C G A Em F#/D G
Somebody told me that this is the place
A B C G F#/D A Asus4 A
where everything's better and everything's safe

CHORUS: (Play this Em open without the fingers in the “G” position and this a “D”
the “F#” root, A is open as well)
Em—F#--G D A
Walk on the Ocean Step on the stone
Em—F#--G D A
Flesh becomes water Wood becomes bone

VERSE 2:
G C G A Em C G
A half an hour later We packed up our things
A G C G F#/D A Asus4 A
We said we'd send letters And all of those little things
G C G A Em F#/D G
And they knew we were lying But they smiled just the same
A B C G F#/D A Asus4 A
It seemed they'd already Forgotten we came

CHORUS:(2X)

BRIDGE:
(Play the chords of the chorus twice)

VERSE 3:
G C G A Em C G
Now back at the homestead Where the air makes you choke
A G C G F#/D A Asus4 A
Where people don't know you And trust is a joke
G C G A Em F#/D G
Don't even have pictures Just memories to hold
A B C G F#/D A
It grows sweeter each season As we slowly grow old

OPTIONAL CHORUS - repeat until fade
