The Statler Brothers

Flowers On The Wall

by The Statler Brothers
The Statler Brothers

Biography:

The Statler Brothers were an American country music vocal group founded in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia.

Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of "Statler".

[Verse 1]
G Em
I keep hearing you're concerned about my happiness
A7 D
But all that thought you're giving me is conscience,

I guess.
G Em
If I were walking in your shoes, I wouldn't worry none
A7
While you and your friends are worrying about me,
D
I'm having lots of fun

[Chorus]
Em
Counting flowers on the wall,

That don't bother me at all

Playing solitaire till dawn, with a deck of 51
C
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo,
D D7 D
Now don't tell me... I've nothing to do

[Verse 2]
G Em
Last night I dressed in tails pretended I was on the town
A7 D
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
G Em
So, please don't give a thought to me, I'm really doing fine
A7 D
You can always find me here, I'm having quite a time

[Chorus]
Em
Counting flowers on the wall,

That don't bother me at all

Playing solitaire till dawn, with a deck of 51
C
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo,
D D7 D
Now don't tell me... I've nothing to do

[Verse 3]
G Em
It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
A7 D
Anyway, my eyes are not accustomed to this light
G Em
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
A7 D
So, I must go back to my room and make my day complete

[Chorus]
Em
Counting flowers on the wall,

That don't bother me at all

Playing solitaire till dawn, with a deck of 51
C
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo,
D D7 D
Now don't tell me... I've nothing to do
D D7 D
Now, don't tell me.... I've nothing to do
